Be alert! It’s that time of the year when ghosts and goblins will rule the roads again on October 31st!

When it comes to Halloween, we all assume it’s the event for the little trick-or-treaters in the neighborhood. Not really! Anyone and everyone can enjoy the Halloween spirit in a unique style. Some decorate their homes and throw a party while others dress up and attend those parties. All in all, it should be declared as a happy occasion where everyone celebrates together. However, that’s not the case. According to the American College of Emergency Physicians, twice as many kids are hit, injured, and killed on Halloween than on any other day. At this moment, do not let this year repeat history, and follow these safety tips to drive safely on Halloween.

Most of these may seem common sense, but with all the fun and scary costumes out there, we’ll turn our attention to seeing them instead of focusing on the road.

Control Speed

While it’s common for you to drive at a higher speed on a regular day, we request you to go really slow on Halloween night. Stay alert on the roads, alleys, and driveways because kids are often on the streets and not always paying attention. Also, there could be pedestrians of all ages on the roads as it’s Halloween. You don’t want to find yourself not having enough time to stop when someone accidentally hits the road, or you can’t see someone because you are driving too fast.

Drive Sober

As per the standard stats, most of the accidents on Halloween night involve a drunk driver. When you drink excessively and then risk driving, you’re putting yourself in danger and other people on the road. After drinking, we lose the sense of conscious driving, and even if we don’t intend to harm anyone, we still do. It’s Halloween, and if you already know you’ll be drinking and partying with friends, hire a private limo service, or if you come by yourself, ask someone sober to drive you home. You can also book a cab service for a safe drop-off.

Be Alert When Walking

Not only the drivers but people walking on the sideways should also be alert on Halloween night. The risk of stumbling, falling, tripping over sidewalks, and stepping into traffic can also put the walkers at risk if they have been drinking.

Child Safety

We all know Halloween is a fun day for kids to play trick-or-treat around the neighborhood. So, if you’re driving the kids around in the car, make sure you have buckled them properly. Do not drop this practice even if it gets tiring after a few rounds. Secondly, whenever you’re pulling over to let the kids out, make sure it’s not on the main road. You never know if any car passes too quickly before they get a chance to stand steadily. Use hazard warning lights to warn other drivers in your area, and be extra careful.

Refrain Yourself from Distractions

Do not use the phone while driving. This rule isn’t specific to Halloween, but it’s a universal traffic rule that you have to follow consistently. Put your phone aside so you can focus on the road and your surroundings. If you are driving while wearing a Halloween costume, we recommend that you remove any masks or large hats that could distract you or blind you while driving. If you’re playing Halloween music for kids, turn down the volume so you can hear other people around you.
